He had to wear suit and tie and jacket every day, while expected to be creative. He showed up at an association meeting for other developers in Portland, and he was the only one in a suit. Their first comment was "your boss makes you wear THAT?!" He'd get more work done at home on the weekends in his PJs than he ever did while he was at the office.
