Tom Cruise is one of those weird, famous actors who can still do a good character and make me forget he’s Tom Cruise.
I am not buying him as Jack Reacher but this looks good:

John Travolta had a good thing going (in the 90s) but Battlefield Earth just messed that up.

Sadly, there is not one actor that will draw me into a movie these days. At best, Will Farrell might get me, but beyond that, no. On the other hand, writers or directors have much greater pull (i.e., Woody Allen, Tarantino, Fincher, Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, Charlie Kauffmann)
